Tenerife Chef to Compete in Spain’s National Rice Cooking Contest

Tenerife Chef Aims for National Rice Crown

Tenerife’s own Aday Martín is set to be one of the star attractions at the first National Artisanal and Creative Rice Competition in the City of Oliva. This gastronomic event will bring together some of the country’s finest rice cooking masters. Representing Restaurante Atlantis, Aday will be competing to be crowned the creator of Spain’s best arroz de caldero (traditional pot rice).

A Proven Track Record of Excellence

Martín arrives with an impressive pedigree. In 2024, he was recognised as the second-best rice chef in the world. He followed this achievement in 2025 by crafting Spain’s third-best fideuá (a noodle-based paella). His participation once again puts Tenerife firmly on the map for exceptional rice cuisine.

A Prestigious National Culinary Showcase

The competition, organised by Oliva Town Council through its Tourism Department in collaboration with Gastroliva, will take place on 8 June at the Media Galta venue. Approximately 25 chefs from across Spain are expected to take part. Contestants will present dishes that combine creativity, technical skill, and respect for quality ingredients.

Promoting Oliva as a Foodie Destination

The event forms part of the council’s strategy to establish Oliva as a leading gastronomic destination, promoting its culinary culture through high-profile events. It aims to celebrate local cuisine and project it on a national and international stage, with rice as the central theme. The gathering will showcase specialists in a format designed to highlight both tradition and culinary innovation.

Part of a Broader Gastronomic Calendar

In this context, the programme for Gastroliva 2026 has also been unveiled. It features an annual calendar of themed weeks dedicated to specific products and culinary formats, such as creative sandwiches, traditional lunches, figatell (a type of sausage), and various rice dishes. The involvement of acclaimed chefs like Aday Martín enhances the appeal of the competition, which aims to become an essential date in the Spanish foodie calendar.
