State of Emergency Declared on Gran Canaria
The regional government has declared a state of emergency on Gran Canaria following the intense rainfall on Tuesday. The severe weather has prompted the activation of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to manage the high volume of incidents occurring across the island, primarily landslides and flooding. Gran Canaria is currently under an orange weather warning issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Landslide Damages Historic Teror Restaurant
One of the most significant incidents involves the partial collapse of the famous restaurant El Secuestro, located in the town of Teror. A wall of the building, situated on the edge of a ravine, gave way on Tuesday. The collapse has exposed part of the interior of the establishment and scattered various objects and debris down the hillside.
