Migrant Boat Reaches Tenerife Amidst Storm Therese

Migrant Boat Lands in Los Cristianos During Storm

A boat carrying 60 sub-Saharan African migrants arrived at the port of Los Cristianos in Tenerife on Saturday, amidst severe conditions brought by Storm Therese, emergency service sources have informed EFE. The vessel made port while an alert for adverse coastal phenomena remains in effect across the Canary Islands, with warnings of waves up to four metres high, intense winds, and heavy rainfall.

Emergency Response Activated After Sighting

According to a spokesperson for Spain’s Maritime Rescue service (Salvamento Marítimo), the state-owned society received a call at 1:44 pm from the 112 emergency number reporting a possible sighting of a migrant boat south of the island from a witness on land. Controllers at the centre mobilised the rescue vessel Alpheratz and received confirmation from the Guardia Civil, which was tracking the boat via the SIVE coastal surveillance system and providing regular position updates.

Escort to Port and Assistance

After locating the boat, the rescue vessel Alpheratz escorted it to the port of Los Cristianos, where it assisted with the disembarkation. Emergency service teams were waiting at the port to provide the necessary care and attention to those on board.
