La Gomera is the smallest inhabited Canary Island (apart from El Hierro). People do not come here for the beaches — they come for hiking in Garajonay, the whistled language of Silbo Gomero and absolute tranquillity. But the beaches that are here have something special: black sand, a bohemian atmosphere and zero crowds.
Beaches of La Gomera
- Valle Gran Rey — the “Valley of the Great King”. Several beaches in one valley: Playa del Inglés, La Calera, Vueltas. A hippie mecca since the 1970s. Black sand, cheap eateries, an alternative community.

- Playa de Santiago — a small fishing beach in the south. Dark stones and sand, peace and quiet, Hotel Jardín Tecina perched on the cliff above (Fred Olsen ferry connection).

How to Get to La Gomera?
By ferry from Los Cristianos in Tenerife — Fred Olsen Express (50 min) or Naviera Armas (approx. 1 h). You can also fly from Tenerife Norte (Binter, 20 min). A car is practically essential on the island — public transport is limited.
