Windy with a rough Atlantic
Tuesday brings a classic Canarian weather pattern: cloudy northern slopes, sunny southern areas, and a brisk northeasterly wind. The Atlantic will be rough, particularly for northern and western coasts. Temperatures are pleasant and typical for mid-April.
General Outlook
A moderate northeasterly wind will blow across the archipelago. Strong gusts are likely on the southeast and northwest slopes of the more mountainous islands, as well as in the interior of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. These gusts could become very strong, exceeding 70 km/h in some areas, especially in the early morning and late evening.
In the Ocean, a combined north-northeasterly swell will affect coasts exposed to the north and the western coasts of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Waves here could surpass 3 metres. Southern, more sheltered coasts will see rough ocean conditions.
Island-by-Island Forecast
Tenerife
Mostly clear skies across the island, but cloudy in the north where a weak, occasional spot of rain cannot be ruled out. Moderate trade winds, with strong gusts possible on the northwest and southeast slopes later in the day. A high of around 21°C is expected in Santa Cruz.
Gran Canaria
The famous ‘panza de burro’ cloud layer will cover the north and northeast. The rest of the island, particularly the south, will be clear. Moderate trade winds with probable very strong gusts (over 70 km/h) on the southeast and west. Temperatures in Las Palmas will range from 16°C to 20°C.
Lanzarote
Scattered clouds in the morning, tending to mostly clear skies in the afternoon. Moderate trade winds, accelerating inland. Maximum temperatures on the coast will be between 19°C and 23°C.
Fuerteventura
Morning intervals of cloud will give way to mostly clear skies in the afternoon. Moderate trade winds with probable strong gusts on the Jandía Peninsula. Temperatures in Puerto del Rosario will range from 16°C to 21°C.
La Palma
Cloudy, especially in the east and northeast. Mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate trade winds with probable strong gusts on the northwest and southeast. Temperatures in Santa Cruz de La Palma will range from 15°C to 20°C.
La Gomera
Cloudy in the interior and north. Mostly clear in other areas. Moderate trade winds. Probable strong gusts on the southeast and northwest. Temperatures remain unchanged.
El Hierro
Cloudy skies in the northeast. Mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate trade winds with probable strong gusts on the northwest and southeast. Cool temperatures.
La Graciosa
Mostly clear skies in general. Moderate trade winds, with strong gusts not ruled out overnight. Temperatures in Caleta de Sebo will range from 16°C to 20°C.
