Full closure of the TF-5 between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque
The TF-5 will be completely closed to traffic between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque for approximately two weeks while resurfacing work is carried out on this section of the Anillo Insular (Tenerife’s island ring road). The works will begin with night-time closures on 30 and 31 August, between 22:00 and 06:00, but from 1 September the road will also be closed during the day, meaning that traffic will be interrupted on this stretch for most of the day.
The works affect the section of the Anillo Insular that connects the two municipal districts, including the access to Icod via the Buen Paso roundabout, the El Amparo link road, and the entrance to El Tanque. In practice, drivers using this route to travel between the north and south of Tenerife will have to temporarily leave this section and continue along the alternative roads that have been put in place.
Road surface renovation works
The aim is to rehabilitate the road surface by applying a cold micro-asphalt treatment, a technique that renews the top layer of the pavement and improves its condition. Before this material can be laid, it will be necessary to carry out surface regularisation work, initially scheduled for the first two nights of the intervention.
Alternative routes: TF-42 and TF-82
The main diversions will be via the TF-42 and the TF-82, two of the roads that maintain connections between the surrounding municipalities while this section of the Anillo Insular remains closed. The TF-42 runs along the north-west coast of Tenerife, connecting Icod de los Vinos with Garachico, Los Silos and Buenavista del Norte. This will be one of the alternatives for those needing to travel through this part of the island without using the affected stretch.
The other option will be the TF-82, which starts in Icod de los Vinos and runs through the interior of the region towards El Tanque and Santiago del Teide. This road will help channel some of the traffic that usually uses the Anillo Insular, although the closure is likely to increase traffic on the alternative routes.
Advice for drivers
The interruption will affect both vehicles heading towards the south of Tenerife and those travelling towards Santa Cruz, so drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow the signed alternative routes, particularly during peak hours. Drivers should at all times respect the temporary signage and instructions in place around the roadworks area.
