Playa Jardín shut over faecal bacteria
Puerto de la Cruz Council closed Playa Jardín to swimmers on Wednesday after high levels of faecal bacteria were detected in the water, the fourth such episode so far this year.
Swimming ban ordered by health authorities
In an official notice signed by the mayor, Leopoldo Afonso, the council announced it had received fresh instructions from the General Directorate of the Health Area of Tenerife ordering a temporary ban on swimming in the Playa Grande centro area.
As a result, the beach has been closed and the affected area marked with sufficient, clearly visible information for users about the microbiological incident and the reasons behind the measure.
Council working to resolve the situation
Puerto de la Cruz Council said on social media that it is working to carry out the necessary checks to resolve the situation and guarantee the safety of beach users. It also expressed its thanks for the cooperation of residents and visitors, and said it would provide an update as soon as new information becomes available.
Second long-running problem for the beach
Playa Jardín remained closed for almost a year, between 2024 and 2025, for the same reason.
