Friday: Rising heat and calima return

Friday’s Forecast: Heat and Dust on the Horizon

A new episode of calima is set to return to the Canary Islands from Friday. Saharan dust will mix with high-level cloud moving from south to north, affecting all islands throughout the day. Temperatures will rise significantly, with increases of up to 8°C expected in some interior and northern areas. The ocean swell is forecast to improve.

General Outlook

The dominant feature on Friday is the arrival of desert dust. It will combine with high cloud, creating a hazy, grey sky. A light northeast wind is expected along the coasts, with an east-southeasterly flow in mid-altitude and summit areas.

Temperatures will climb sharply, potentially exceeding 30°C in some spots. Ocean conditions are improving, with waves from the north around 2.5 metres and southern coasts seeing waves of about 1.5 metres.
