Foreign Social Security affiliates in the Canary Islands climb 2.51% in August

The number of foreign workers affiliated to Social Security in the Canary Islands grew by 2.51% in August, reaching 152,523 — an increase of 3,747 on the figure recorded in the immediately preceding month, July, when there were 148,776, according to data released this Monday by the relevant ministry.

General regime accounts for the bulk of the increase

The majority of those workers, 111,562, were affiliated to the general regime, a statement from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations details. The ministry’s website reports that those registered under this heading in the islands in July numbered 108,359, meaning that in August their number had risen by 3,203.

Self-employed workers and special schemes

The second largest group in the eighth month of the year was the self-employed, who totalled 33,824, growing by 153 compared with the 33,671 registered in July. The remaining foreign affiliates to Social Security in the Canary Islands in August were attached to the special agricultural scheme, which totalled 3,181; the household scheme, 3,225, and the sea scheme, 730, the ministry details.
