Drug trafficking boat seized on Lanzarote coast

Rigid inflatable boat runs aground in Mala

A rigid inflatable boat ran aground on Saturday afternoon on the coast of Mala, in the municipality of Haría on Lanzarote. The incident is linked to a drug trafficking investigation and is not related to irregular immigration. Four people were on board the boat—three Spanish citizens and one French national—who were arrested by the Civil Guard after the vessel became stranded near the cliffs.

Packages thrown overboard near La Garita beach

The inflatable boat was spotted at around 7:00 PM navigating near La Garita beach in Arrieta. Shortly before reaching the rocky area, several packages were thrown overboard from the vessel. The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to locate and examine these packages and determine their contents, meaning it has not yet been officially confirmed that they contain narcotics.

Emergency services respond to the scene

Officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police attended the scene, along with personnel from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium. Investigations are ongoing to establish the route taken by the boat and the extent of the possible consignment, as well as to determine how many packages were thrown into the water and whether any have been recovered.
