Saturday: clouds, breeze, and light showers

A Saturday steered by the trade winds

A moderate trade wind flow sets the tone for today, pushing clouds onto northern and eastern slopes while leaving southern coasts mostly clear. Light, occasional showers are possible in the north and northeast, though no significant rainfall is expected. Maximum temperatures will dip slightly in the western islands and parts of southwest Gran Canaria, while minimums edge up everywhere except on Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Graciosa, where they stay steady.

Island-by-island forecast

Tenerife

Variable cloud cover overall, with overcast skies in the south. Light, occasional showers are likely, especially in the north and southwest. Moderate trade wind, becoming northwesterly on the peaks. Strong gusts cannot be ruled out in areas exposed to the trade winds. Temperatures in the capital range from 16ºC to 22ºC.

Gran Canaria

The typical “panza de burro” cloud cap covers the north and east, while the rest of the island sees mostly clear skies. Local afternoon clouds may develop in the south, with a slim chance of a light shower in the north and southern midlands. Moderate trade wind with possible strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes. Temperatures in the capital: 17ºC to 21ºC.

Lanzarote

Cloudy in the north and west, mostly clear elsewhere. A moderate trade wind, picking up over inland areas. Maximum temperature around 23ºC in Arrecife.

Fuerteventura

Scattered clouds, though the south and southeast remain mostly clear. Moderate trade wind, with possible strong gusts inland. Highs between 20ºC and 24ºC.

La Palma

Scattered clouds in the morning, turning overcast by midday. Light, occasional showers are probable, mainly in the north and east. Moderate trade wind, northwesterly on the peaks. Temperatures in the capital range from 15ºC to 20ºC.

La Gomera

Cloudy skies in the north and inland areas, with scattered clouds elsewhere. A stray drop is possible by afternoon. Moderate northeast wind. Coastal highs between 19ºC and 23ºC.

El Hierro

Cloudy, turning very cloudy in the north and northeast, with scattered clouds elsewhere. Light, occasional rain is likely. Moderate trade wind and cool temperatures.

La Graciosa

Cloudy skies with a moderate trade wind. Temperatures in Caleta de Sebo range from 17ºC to 22ºC.

Atlantic conditions

The ocean will be rough in most areas. In open waters exposed to the north, and along the western coasts of La Palma, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, a combined swell from the northwest will produce waves reaching close to 2 metres.
