The weather is changing across the Canary Islands today. An area of instability sitting west of the archipelago is bringing more cloud cover, a higher chance of rain, and a general drop in temperatures.
General outlook
Low cloud will increasingly cover the more mountainous islands, with some light rain expected in the mid-altitude areas of La Palma, the eastern half of Tenerife, and inland Gran Canaria. Any rainfall is most likely after midday. Winds will be light and variable across the western islands, while the eastern islands will see a breeze from the northeast. Winds may pick up on the highest peaks. The Atlantic remains calm, with waves not exceeding one metre along the northern coasts.
Island by island
Tenerife
Cloudy from early morning. Only the summit of Mount Teide is expected to stay clear. Light rain is possible in the mid-altitude areas of the eastern side during the afternoon. Temperatures will drop.
Gran Canaria
Low cloud in the north and northeast of the island. Later in the day, local clouds will develop inland in the south. Temperatures in the capital will range between 18°C and 22°C.
Lanzarote
Remnants of high cloud in the morning, with some low cloud patches in the north and variable cloud elsewhere. Temperatures in Arrecife will range between 17°C and 23°C.
Fuerteventura
Leftover high cloud at dawn will clear. Low cloud will linger in the north, while the south enjoys sunshine. Temperatures will vary between 17°C and 23°C.
La Palma
A grey day with intermittent rain from midday onwards, especially on the eastern slopes. Temperatures in the capital will sit between 16°C and 21°C.
La Gomera
Low cloud will spread across almost the entire island. The change in weather will be noticeable, with temperatures in San Sebastián ranging between 18°C and 22°C.
El Hierro
Humidity will increase, bringing more cloud cover but only a low chance of rain. Temperatures in Valverde will fall, ranging between 12°C and 18°C.
La Graciosa
A mix of high cloud in the morning and low cloud later. The wind remains light, the ocean stays calm, and temperatures will drop.
