Monday starts with a refreshing change: temperatures are dropping across the Islands and the calima has vanished. Expect a mix of clouds in the north and strong trade winds, but plenty of sunshine elsewhere.
A cooler, windier start to the week
The day begins with cloudy skies on the northern coasts of the Islands, mainly below 900 to 1,000 metres in altitude. The rest of the archipelago can expect mostly clear skies, with no desert dust in the air.
Daytime highs will range from 24 to 30°C, but could locally reach 30 to 32°C in the east of Tenerife, the south of Gran Canaria and parts of Fuerteventura. The drop in temperature is most noticeable on the peaks, especially during the early hours.
A moderate to strong northeast trade wind will blow across the Islands, with very strong intervals of 60 to 80 km/h in the usual acceleration zones. At sea, the south coasts will see slightly choppy conditions, while the rest of the Atlantic will be rough with combined northeast waves of 1 to 2 metres.
Tenerife
Low clouds will hang over the north and northeast, but the rest of the Island will enjoy long spells of sunshine, and the calima has cleared. Temperatures will be a degree or two lower. The wind will blow from the northeast, moderate to strong, and will be more intense in Teno and southwest of the Metropolitan Area.
Gran Canaria
The classic “panza de burro” cloud bank will cover the north and the capital area, below 1,000 metres. Elsewhere, expect full sunshine with no calima. Temperatures drop, with highs of 24 to 32°C. The trade wind brings very strong intervals, with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h along the southeast and west coasts.
Lanzarote
Low cloud intervals will linger on the north and west coasts, but the rest of the Island will see plenty of sun. Pleasant daytime temperatures and a moderate to strong northeast wind are on the cards.
Fuerteventura
Morning cloud intervals will soon give way to sunny spells. Temperatures are set to fall slightly. Expect a moderate to strong trade wind, especially in inland areas and the south of the Island.
La Palma
A notable drop in minimum temperatures on the peaks is the main story. Elsewhere, expect low cloud on the north and east coasts with clearer intervals in other areas. Air temperatures will reach 24 to 29°C with a moderate trade wind.
La Gomera
The northeast wind will be strong, with very strong intervals and gusts of 60 to 80 km/h in the far northwest and east of the Island. Low clouds on the north coast, while the rest of La Gomera enjoys sunny conditions.
El Hierro
Cloudy intervals on the north and northeast coasts, with clear skies elsewhere. Temperatures drop, with highs between 22 and 28°C. The trade wind will blow moderate to strong.
La Graciosa
Cloud intervals will be the dominant feature, especially thick at dawn and dusk. Mild temperatures and a moderate northeast wind will prevail throughout the day.
