Summer is in full swing on the Canary Islands this Friday, 14 August. The trade winds are blowing strong, temperatures remain typical for the season, and a light calima is visible in the sky at altitude.

General conditions

Daytime temperatures will barely change from Thursday. The hottest spots will be in the south of Gran Canaria, where local thermometers could hit 36–38ºC. Elsewhere, expect comfortable highs between 30 and 34ºC.

Low clouds will cling to northern coasts below 500–700 metres. The rest of the Islands will enjoy plenty of sunshine under a light haze of Saharan dust.

The wind blows from the northeast, moderate to strong. In the usual channels where the trade wind accelerates, gusts could reach 60–80 km/h. On the Ocean, the southern coasts will see rough seas, while elsewhere combined northeast swell will reach 1 to 2 metres in height.

The classic “panza de burro” – a dense layer of low cloud – will cover the north and the capital below 600 metres. Elsewhere, it will be sunny with light calima. It will feel hot, with highs of 32–37ºC. Trade wind with strong intervals, gusting 50–70 km/h on the southeast and west slopes.
