The Canary Islands close the weekend beneath a blanket of Saharan dust, with high and mid-level cloud, a handful of late storms on the mountainous islands and temperatures still pushing past 30ºC along the coasts.
Calima, cloud and a muggy feel
Sunday brings extensive high and mid-level cloud across the archipelago, with showers likely on the mountainous islands – Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro – and the chance of an isolated storm during the evening. Calima in the air, with a light easterly wind and a moderate south to south-easterly over the summits. Coastal highs will pass 30ºC and minimums will struggle to fall below 25ºC. Santa Cruz will range from 24ºC to 30ºC.
Gran Canaria
Cloudy with high and mid-level cloud and the odd shower possible, along with isolated storms towards the end of the day. Calima will be more noticeable at altitude. Light north to north-easterly wind, turning south-westerly over the summits. Coastal temperatures will exceed 30ºC, with minimums unlikely to drop below 25ºC to 26ºC. Las Palmas will see 24ºC to 29ºC.
Lanzarote
Covered by high and mid-level cloud, with the chance of a stray spot of rain late in the day. Calima sitting at altitude. Light north to north-easterly wind. The west coast could touch 30ºC, while Arrecife ranges from 23ºC to 29ºC.
Fuerteventura
Overcast with high and mid-level cloud and a low chance of a drop or two towards evening. Calima at altitude. Light north to north-easterly wind, with the south-east reaching 30ºC. Puerto del Rosario will range from 23ºC to 27ºC.
La Palma
High and mid-level cloud with showers possible, accompanied by scattered storms at the end of the day. Calima in the air and a light easterly wind. Coasts and lower slopes could exceed 30ºC, while Santa Cruz de La Palma will hover around a 29ºC high.
La Gomera
Skies covered by high and mid-level cloud, with showers likely and occasional storms possible late in the day. Calima and a light easterly wind. Coastal highs will pass 30ºC, with warm minimums overnight.
El Hierro
Overcast with high and mid-level cloud and the chance of rain accompanied by afternoon storms. Calima and a light easterly wind. Coastal areas could climb above 30ºC.
La Graciosa
Skies covered by high and mid-level cloud with calima at altitude. Light north to north-easterly wind. Caleta de Sebo will see temperatures between 23ºC and 28ºC.
