canary islands heatwave saturday july 2026

Saturday: temperatures soar across the islands

A new hot spell arrives

This first weekend of July brings a fresh episode of high temperatures across the archipelago. After a brief break, the heat returns with force on Saturday, pushing thermometers above 30°C in the interior south of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Sunday looks even hotter, with the mercury potentially topping 34°C, especially on Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

General conditions

Cloud cover will be minimal. What little cloud there is will cling to northern coasts early and late in the day. Humidity drops, drying out the atmosphere. A light calima — Saharan dust — may hang in the air at altitude, but it won’t be heavy. Winds blow from the northwest, light to moderate, shifting to the southwest on Tenerife’s highest summits. The Atlantic remains calm, with slightly choppy to rough conditions in northern areas; waves stay below one metre.

Island by island

Tenerife

Low cloud in the north will thin out through the day. A touch of calima in the air. Light winds. Higher temperatures in the southern mid-altitudes than in the capital, with daytime highs reaching 30°C.

Gran Canaria

The “panza de burro” (low cloud deck) over the north will weaken. Sunshine elsewhere, with a light haze of calima. Temperatures in the capital range from 22°C to 25°C.

Lanzarote

In Arrecife, temperatures sit between 22°C and 30°C. Morning clouds in the north and west, then clearing up. A hint of calima. No wind to speak of, and calm ocean conditions.

Fuerteventura

Clouds in the north and west during the morning, quickly retreating. Light winds. Thermometers in Puerto del Rosario range from 21°C to 30°C.

La Palma

Mostly clear skies. A few scattered clouds over the north, east and south, though the south will stay brightest. In Santa Cruz, expect between 21°C and 26°C.

La Gomera

Almost cloudless skies. Some early and late cloud in the north, but humidity drops and winds ease. Temperatures on the rise.

El Hierro

Fewer clouds than yesterday — what remains will be scattered. Possible light calima at altitude. Calm winds. Temperatures between 15°C and 22°C.

La Graciosa

Some morning cloud intervals that won’t last long. No wind expected. The ocean improves, and temperatures rise.

Looking ahead

Sunday looks set to bring even higher temperatures. Keep hydrated, seek shade during midday hours, and don’t forget the sunscreen — the heat is here to stay, at least for a few days.
