The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), headed by Pino de León, published the new call for the 2026-2027 Bono Alquiler Joven in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) on Thursday. The scheme is aimed at young people aged between 18 and 35 and is designed to help them meet the cost of renting their habitual home, making it easier for them to leave the family home and get on with their lives, with aid that can reach €250 a month.
Funding for the scheme
The Bono Alquiler Joven subsidies have an overall budget of €12,878,000. Of that total, €10,600,000 comes from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, while €2,278,000 corresponds to funding from the island councils of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and Tenerife, intended to channel island funds into the programme and strengthen measures supporting access to housing for the young population of those islands, the ministry reported on Wednesday.
In the case of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the call incorporates €378,000 corresponding to unspent credit remaining from the 2025 Bono Alquiler Joven call, which is folded into the new 2026 call. The Cabildo of Tenerife, for its part, is contributing €1.9 million to this call.
How and when to apply
Interested parties will be able to submit their applications online within a period of 15 working days, from 18 September to 8 October 2026 inclusive, preferably electronically through the Government of the Canary Islands’ electronic headquarters via the following link: .
The aim of the measure is to make it easier for people aged between 18 and 35 to become independent and enjoy a home of their own, as well as to improve access to and retention of housing for tenants or assignees with limited financial resources, through direct rent aid of €250 a month, which can amount to a total of €6,000 spread over 24 monthly payments.
Who is eligible
The programme also seeks to improve the quality of life of the tenants who benefit and their households, who must be adults, resident in Spain, with a rental contract for a home in the Canary Islands and annual income for 2025 that does not exceed three times the Public Indicator of Multiple Effect Income (IPREM). For large families of the general category, people with disabilities or victims of terrorism, the threshold rises to four times the IPREM, while for large families of the special category and people with a recognised disability of 33% or above, it can be up to five times.
Rent limits and payment
The maximum monthly rent will depend on the municipality of residence, with limits set at €900, €750 or €600 depending on the area, while for room rentals the caps will be €450, €375 or €300 respectively.
The subsidy will be paid every six months after proof of rent payment is provided, although in cases where the application is submitted with retroactive effect it may be paid directly at the time it is granted, provided the corresponding receipts are accredited.
