Beatles film shoots in Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava
The Canarian director JuanMa V. Betancort is currently shooting in Puerto de la Cruz and the Valle de La Orotava, in the north of Tenerife, the feature film Lennon no estuvo aquí (Lennon Wasn’t Here), a fictional feature that takes as its starting point the holidays Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr spent in Tenerife in the spring of 1963.

Filming, which began on 7 September, weaves together a musical comedy with a dramatic tone that connects the island’s memory with the cities of Hamburg and Liverpool. The central plot follows the journey to the island of Astrid (Isabel Stoffel) and Lucy (Laura Mart), who are determined to find Paul McCartney’s first lost bass guitar in order to save the German Beatlemania museum from bankruptcy. In this pop race against the clock, the cast is completed by performers including Pablo Carbonell, Anabel Alonso, Teddy Bautista, Javier Gurruchaga, Natalia Verbeke, Agustina Palma and Nicolás Scarpino.

As well as the Tenerife municipality, the film will recreate interior settings linked to the group’s history, organically connecting the geography of Puerto de la Cruz with the cities of Liverpool and Hamburg, where shooting will move in October.
Spanish-Argentine co-production backed by island institutions
The film is a Spanish-Argentine co-production involving Frame (Argentina) and Insularia Films, in association with the Beatles Museum in Liverpool. The production has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Tenerife Island Council and Puerto de la Cruz Town Council, along with the participation of Televisión Canaria and the collaboration of La Orotava Town Council.
