A 75-year-old man was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon, 29 August 2026, after the car he was driving plunged into a ravine in the municipality of Arico, in the south of Tenerife.
Emergency response
The accident occurred at 2.45pm in the Lomo de Oliva area, when an alert was received at the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 of the Canary Islands Government. Given the severity of the incident and the difficult terrain, the sector technician of the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium coordinated the deployment of crews, who made their way into the ravine bed to reach the vehicle, safely hoist the casualty out and hand him over to health services.
Rescue and medical care
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched a Advanced Life Support ambulance and a Basic Life Support unit to the scene. Following the rescue from the vehicle, medical staff treated and immobilised the man, who was suffering from multiple serious injuries. Once he had been stabilised at the scene, he was transferred by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria.
Officers from the Arico Local Police and the Civil Guard also took part in resolving the incident, actively assisting the rescue teams and drawing up the relevant reports to establish the cause of the fall.
