Thursday: heat returns, with a touch of calima

Compiled with the help of artificial intelligence, based on weather data. Source below the article.

Heat is back on the Islands. Thursday brings a noticeable rise in temperatures, especially in mid-altitude areas and on the peaks. Expect strong trade winds and a light haze of Saharan dust in the sky.

General outlook

The warmest spots will be the south and southeast of Gran Canaria, where local maximums could hit a sweltering 37–38ºC. The south of Fuerteventura will see over 35ºC, while the rest of the archipelago will hover between a warm 32–35ºC.

Expect some low clouds on northern coasts below 700–900 metres, but plenty of sunshine elsewhere. A slight calima will obscure the horizon at altitude, with some medium cloud drifting towards the southeast. Local afternoon clouds may build over the highest peaks of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, but rainfall is unlikely.

The trade winds will blow moderately to strongly from the northeast. Expect very strong gusts of 60–80 km/h in the usual acceleration zones. The Atlantic will be rough, with areas of strong swell offshore and waves of 1–2 metres, amplified by the new moon’s spring tides.
