Daniel Radcliffe surprises shoppers in Tenerife pharmacy

Daniel Radcliffe’s low-key visit to a Santa Cruz pharmacy

When Daniel Radcliffe walked into a pharmacy in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, no one was entirely sure whether the customer before them was really Harry Potter. There were glances, doubts, rapid internet searches and a growing suspicion. Until someone plucked up the courage to ask him directly. No truth potion was needed. The outcome was far simpler: Radcliffe took off his glasses and, as pharmacist Amira Nasser told ‘La Alpispa’, the morning magazine show on La Radio Canaria, “there was obviously no doubt”.

The scene took place at Farmacia Mencey, located near the Ramblas of Santa Cruz and García Sanabria Park. It is a place far removed from St Mungo’s, the magical hospital of the saga, but for a few minutes it had a story behind the counter worthy of any Potterhead.

Staff were unsure at first

The pharmacy team did not immediately recognise the actor, and that is where the little mystery began. Amira Nasser explained on La Radio Canaria that at first there were “a few small doubts” and the staff began asking one another whether the man really could be Daniel Radcliffe. The suspicion grew until they decided to do what anyone would have done with the Marauder’s Map out of reach: search the internet.

“We searched online to see who he looked most like,” recounted the pharmacist, before summing up the conclusion they reached: “It had to be Harry Potter.” And yes, it was him.

The scene has something especially recognisable for any follower of the saga. One of the most famous faces in cinema was standing before the counter and yet, for a few moments, it seemed more reasonable to think that this customer simply bore a striking resemblance to the boy who lived.

The glasses came off and all doubt vanished

Finally, they decided to put their doubts to rest. According to Nasser, they asked him directly and “very politely” whether he was an actor. Radcliffe responded with a gesture. “At that moment he took off his glasses and there was obviously no doubt,” said the pharmacist. No lightning-shaped scar appeared to clear up the mystery, but none was needed.

Nasser also explained that the actor was “very friendly”, and Radcliffe ended up posing for photos with part of the Farmacia Mencey team. The establishment later shared the photograph on its social media channels and gave special thanks for the actor’s attitude. “Visits that bring a smile to our faces,” they wrote, describing the encounter as one of those moments “that make the day even more beautiful”.

More sightings across the island

The pharmacy visit has not been the only time Daniel Radcliffe has caused a stir during his stay in Tenerife. The actor has also been recognised by locals while strolling through Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and has been attentive with those who have approached to say hello.

In addition, the actor was seen doing his shopping with total normality at a HiperDino supermarket in Tenerife, an everyday scene that did not go unnoticed by those who recognised one of the most famous actors from the Harry Potter saga. His presence in the supermarket soon circulated on social media, adding to the images of Radcliffe enjoying the island like any other visitor.

Far from avoiding fans, Radcliffe has stopped to pose for photographs and sign autographs. Ten points to Gryffindor.
