Cooler air and grey skies settle over the Islands
Friday will bring a noticeable shift in the weather across the Canary Islands, with more cloud cover and cooler temperatures taking hold. A blanket of low cloud will stretch across the north of all islands, also covering the west of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. On the more mountainous islands—particularly Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote—there is a chance of isolated, light drizzle. The best of the sunshine will be found above 2,000 metres on the peaks and along some southern and eastern coastlines.
Temperatures are set to drop, with maximums falling moderately and mornings feeling noticeably cooler. The wind remains a key feature, with strong gusts continuing into the afternoon, especially in exposed areas where speeds could once again exceed 70 km/h. At sea, the Atlantic is rough, with waves over 2.5 metres likely along the coast, in open waters, and between the islands. The southern coasts will experience a rough ocean.
Island-by-Island Forecast
Tenerife
A grey day is on the cards. Clouds in the north will bring light drizzle, and fog could affect the northern airport. Strong winds persist, and temperatures will be lower than recent days.
Gran Canaria
Gusts around 80 km/h are expected near La Aldea, with slightly lighter winds in the southeast. The classic “panza de burro” (low cloud layer) will cover the northern half of the island, with a chance of light drizzle. Temperatures will drop.
Lanzarote
Winds will blow strongly in the centre and south of the island. Low clouds will dominate, and a few drops are possible in the northwest. Temperatures in Arrecife will range from 19 to 23°C.
Fuerteventura
A cloudy day with skies clearing only in the southeast coastline by the afternoon. Winds will be moderate, and temperatures will sit between 19 and 23°C.
La Palma
Clouds will build in the north and east, with a chance of light drizzle. Strong winds will affect the southeast. In Santa Cruz, temperatures will range from 18 to 22°C.
La Gomera
Thick cloud cover will blanket the north and interior, and a few isolated drops cannot be ruled out. The trade winds will continue to gust over 70 km/h in some spots. Temperatures will be cooler.
El Hierro
More cloud cover is expected in the north and around the capital, with a chance of a stray drop. Strong winds will continue in exposed areas. Temperatures will see a slight drop.
La Graciosa
Clouds will be the main story for much of Friday, accompanied by wind, particularly at sea. Temperatures will be lower than on Thursday.
