Wednesday: clouds, cooler air, and rough seas

Cooler, cloudier conditions arrive

A passing weather front brings a marked change to the Canary Islands this Wednesday, 8 April. Expect widespread cloud, a noticeable drop in temperatures, and increasingly rough ocean conditions. The Atlantic will be particularly unsettled, with high waves forecast for northern and western coasts.

General outlook: wind, temperatures, and ocean

Cooler air is moving in. Both daytime highs and overnight lows will fall across the archipelago. Winds will pick up overnight, especially over mountain peaks and downwind slopes, blowing from a northerly direction before easing slightly during the day.

The ocean state is deteriorating significantly. High waves of 4 to 5 metres are expected along the northern coasts of the more mountainous islands, and the northern and western shores of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Maritime conditions will be challenging.

Island-by-island forecast for Wednesday

Tenerife

Cloud will build in the north with possible light showers. Wind gusts will increase, particularly in the metropolitan area and along the mountain ridges overnight.

Gran Canaria

Clouds will dominate for much of the day, first in the northern half with a chance of weak precipitation. More cloud will develop in the south during the afternoon. It will feel noticeably cooler.

Lanzarote

Some instability is expected as a low-pressure system approaches. Low cloud will cover the island for most of the day, moving from north to south. Temperatures will drop.

Fuerteventura

Expect variable cloud cover with clearer spells becoming more frequent in the afternoon and towards the south. A moderate wind will blow, and temperatures will fall.

La Palma

Residual cloud will linger, with the chance of some light precipitation, mainly in the north. Winds will strengthen overnight in the east. Temperatures will range from 14 to 19°C.

La Gomera

A grey, humid day is forecast for the north and interior, with sunnier conditions towards the southern coast. Wind will gain strength in the central areas later in the day. Temperatures will be lower.

El Hierro

Clouds will remain, with increased humidity and a cool feel. In Valverde, temperatures will range from 11 to 14°C, and an isolated light shower is possible.

La Graciosa

Cloud will be present for most of the day. Winds will increase, particularly overnight, further complicating maritime conditions. Temperatures will be lower.
