Unsettled conditions continue
Storm Therese continues to influence the Canary Islands this Tuesday, bringing cloudy skies and the risk of scattered showers. While the system is weakening, it will maintain unstable conditions, particularly over the western islands during the morning. The eastern islands can expect clearer skies to develop in the afternoon.
General outlook for Tuesday
Cloudy skies will dominate with occasional breaks. Scattered showers are likely, some locally heavy and possibly accompanied by thunder, especially overnight and in the morning. Daytime temperatures will be pleasant, ranging from 17ºC to 24ºC.
A light to moderate southerly wind is expected, shifting to an easterly direction overnight. Strong gusts are probable on the western slopes of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Very strong gusts are forecast for the mid-altitude and summit areas of La Palma in the latter part of the day.
Saharan dust is likely to affect Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa. In the Atlantic, waves on north-facing coasts and the west coasts of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro may reach up to 2.5 metres. Elsewhere, the ocean will be rough with waves under 1.5 metres.
Island-by-island forecast
Tenerife
Cloudy with locally heavy showers and possible thunderstorms, especially during the first half of the day. A light variable wind on the coasts, easterly in mid-altitude and summit areas. A maximum of around 20ºC is expected in Santa Cruz.
Gran Canaria
Cloudy with some breaks. Scattered showers are likely, some locally intense, particularly in the morning and possibly with thunderstorms. Generally light winds. Temperatures in Las Palmas will range from 16ºC to 21ºC.
Lanzarote
Very cloudy in the morning, tending to mostly clear skies in the afternoon. A predominantly southeasterly wind. Saharan dust is probable. A maximum of 21ºC is forecast for Arrecife.
Fuerteventura
Cloudy skies, tending to mostly clear or clear in the afternoon. A low probability of rain. Saharan dust is likely. A moderate southeasterly wind will ease in the afternoon. Expect a high of around 21ºC in Puerto del Rosario.
La Palma
A cloudy day, with showers that could be locally intense, especially overnight. Thunderstorms are possible. A light to moderate northeasterly wind with probable very strong gusts in mid-altitude and summit areas overnight. Cool temperatures.
La Gomera
Scattered showers, some locally heavy. Thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. A light variable wind. Maximum temperatures on the coasts will be between 18ºC and 23ºC.
El Hierro
Cloudy with probable scattered heavy showers, particularly in the north and eastern half. Thunderstorms are likely. A light wind, predominantly from the northeast.
La Graciosa
Cloudy in the morning, clearing in the afternoon. Saharan dust is probable. A light variable wind. Temperatures in Caleta de Sebo will range from 16ºC to 21ºC.
