Shocking array of items seized from passengers
The Guardia Civil has published a video on its official social media profiles showing some of the objects intercepted at airports. “These are some of the prohibited items we encounter at airports,” they state. “Although it may seem unbelievable, this weapon was seized from a passenger who was about to travel on a flight,” explains an officer.
Knives, simulated firearms and slingshots
The officers display a large knife, similar to a hunting knife, which was intercepted at an airport. They then show another weapon that “you cannot possess, much less carry in an airport or on a flight,” the agents remind the public. They explain that such items are confiscated and destroyed to prevent any risky situations during travel. “The most important thing is to guarantee safety,” they affirm.
The video continues to show weapons, insisting they were all taken from passengers. The Guardia Civil shows “three toys that are simulated firearms,” which are “totally prohibited” from being taken on board an aircraft by a passenger. Even though these weapons are non-functional, they can generate alarming situations and trigger panic among passengers.
A slingshot may seem like a harmless object; however, the officers consider it an item that can cause serious harm and is therefore incompatible with the safety required on a flight.
Concealed threats and explosive risks
Furthermore, many passengers may carry conventional objects like a soft drink can, but inside they “can contain drugs, knives, or other items that could compromise aviation security.”
Finally, the Guardia Civil warns that it is completely forbidden to transport camping gas canisters on an aircraft “since the pressure exerted can cause an explosion,” they conclude.
Hefty fines for non-compliance
According to the Citizen Security Law, carrying, displaying, or using certain weapons carries penalties ranging from €601 to €30,000 for individuals who breach the regulations.
