Woman dies after Santa Inés beach rescue
A 44-year-old woman has died after being rescued from the sea with signs of drowning at Santa Inés beach in Aguas Verdes, within the municipality of Betancuria, Fuerteventura. It is believed she fell into the water from some rocks, according to information from the Canary Islands 1-1-2 emergency service.
Emergency response at the scene
The Coordination Centre for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government received an alert at 14:42 on Friday. The caller reported that bathers had pulled a woman from the water who was showing symptoms of drowning and was unconscious. While emergency services were on their way, people at the beach informed operators that they were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the woman.
Resuscitation efforts continue
The GES rescue helicopter arrived in the area and deployed rescuers directly onto the beach, who continued with resuscitation manoeuvres. Personnel from the SUC ambulance service confirmed that the victim was still in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite continuing with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, these efforts were unsuccessful and they confirmed her death.
Police officers collaborated with the rest of the emergency resources and carried out the necessary reports.
