Faced with this hazardous situation, flight crews are requesting continuous diversions to avoid the intense storm cores, adding to the air traffic congestion and delays.

The passage of an isolated high-altitude depression (DANA) over the Canary Islands is bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, very strong winds, and intense swell to all seven islands. In response to the forecasted storm, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has both expanded and elevated its weather warnings for the archipelago, upgrading some alerts from yellow to orange, indicating a significant risk to the public.
