Cloudy skies and a brisk trade wind define the weather across the Canary Islands this Sunday, 12 April. Rain is likely, particularly on northern slopes in the morning. The Atlantic remains rough, with a significant swell bringing high waves to many coasts.
General outlook: Wind, clouds, and a choppy ocean
A moderate trade wind will blow across the archipelago, with strong intervals expected on the peaks and the southeastern and northwestern slopes of the more mountainous islands. Gusts could exceed 70 km/h in these exposed areas by the late afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will see a slight dip, especially inland. The Atlantic is rough, with a combined northerly swell. Waves may surpass 3 metres on north-facing coasts, inter-island channels, and the western shores of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote. Other coasts will see rough ocean conditions.

Tenerife
Very cloudy in the north and southwest with probable weak to moderate rain. Elsewhere, expect scattered clouds. A moderate trade wind will bring probable very strong gusts to the southeast by late afternoon. A high of around 20°C is forecast for Santa Cruz.
Gran Canaria
Very cloudy in the north and interior with probable weak to moderate rain. Scattered clouds elsewhere. The moderate trade wind may produce very strong gusts on the peaks and in southeastern and western areas. Pleasant daytime temperatures.
Lanzarote
Very cloudy in the morning, tending to clear by the afternoon. The trade wind will pick up in the late afternoon with probable strong gusts inland. A maximum of around 20°C is expected in Arrecife.
Fuerteventura
Cloudy skies with clearing in the afternoon. Weak rain cannot be ruled out in the south and west in the morning. A moderate trade wind will accelerate across the Jandía Peninsula and the west coast. Temperatures in Puerto del Rosario will range from 15°C to 20°C.
La Palma
Very cloudy in the north, northeast, and east with possible weak to moderate morning rain. Scattered clouds elsewhere. Moderate trade wind with probable strong gusts on the peaks of El Paso. The capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, will see a high near 20°C.
La Gomera
Cloudy in the interior and north with probable weak rain. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. A moderate trade wind will bring strong gusts to the southeast and northwest by the late afternoon. Pleasant temperatures.
El Hierro
Cloudy skies with a chance of weak morning drizzle. Will tend to become mostly clear in the afternoon. Moderate trade wind with probable very strong gusts. Cool temperatures.
La Graciosa
Variable cloud cover. A moderate trade wind is expected. Temperatures in Caleta de Sebo will range from 15°C to 20°C.
