Saturday: trade winds and mild temperatures
A stable day is forecast for the Canary Islands this Saturday, 28 March, dominated by the northeast trade winds. The typical pattern of cloud in the north and sunshine in the south will be in place, with temperatures remaining pleasant for the season.
General outlook
The trade winds will blow at a moderate pace, with stronger intervals and possible gusts exceeding 50 km/h on the southeast and northwest slopes of the more mountainous islands. Daytime temperatures will see a slight rise, most noticeable in the interior and south of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
At sea, conditions will be generally calm. Waves on coasts exposed to the north and west of La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote may reach up to 2.5 metres. Elsewhere, the ocean will be slightly choppy with waves under 1.5 metres.
Island-by-island forecast
Tenerife
Cloudy skies in the north with a low chance of occasional, light rain, especially overnight. The south will see local clouds developing from midday. Elsewhere, expect mostly clear skies. A moderate northeast wind. A high of 22°C is forecast for Santa Cruz.
Gran Canaria
The famous ‘panza de burro’ (sea of clouds) will affect the north and northeast, with a slight chance of a weak, occasional drizzle overnight. A moderate trade wind, strengthening on the southeast and west slopes. Temperatures in Las Palmas will range from 16°C to 21°C.
Lanzarote
Cloudy in the west and north. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. A moderate northeast wind with probable strong gusts inland. A maximum temperature of 21°C is expected in Arrecife.
Fuerteventura
Scattered clouds, especially in the west and north, tending to mostly clear by the afternoon. Mostly clear skies for the rest of the island. A moderate northeast wind. Maximum temperatures between 18°C and 23°C.
La Palma
Variable cloud cover in the north and east. Mostly clear skies in other areas. A moderate trade wind with strong intervals on the southeast and northwest slopes. Temperatures in Santa Cruz de La Palma will range from 15°C to 21°C.
La Gomera
Mostly clear skies except in the north, which will be cloudy. A moderate northeast wind with probable strong gusts in the capital, San Sebastián. Coastal highs between 18°C and 23°C.
El Hierro
Cloudy skies, particularly in the north and northeast. Mostly clear or clear elsewhere. A moderate trade wind, accelerating at the island’s extremities. Cool mornings.
La Graciosa
Very cloudy initially, tending to become mostly clear in the second half of the day. A moderate northeast wind. Temperatures in Caleta de Sebo will range from 16°C to 20°C.
