New Air Link Connects La Rioja to Canary Islands

New Air Route Proposed for La Rioja and Canaries

The operational and connectivity offer put forward by Binter Canarias, through the company Gestión Aeronáutica Integral Canaria S.L, includes a direct connection between Logroño-Agoncillo Airport and Gran Canaria Airport. It also provides a single-ticket link, with direct baggage check-in to the final destination and connection protection, to all other airport terminals in the Canary Islands (Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna; Tenerife South; Lanzarote-César Manrique Airport; La Palma; Fuerteventura; El Hierro; and La Gomera).

Exceeding Minimum Requirements

The bidding airline has offered a total of 31 frequencies (each frequency equates to two journeys) and guarantees the provision of 8,184 annual seats during the period from June to September when the service will operate. This proposal exceeds the minimum requirements for the tender award by five frequencies and 1,424 seats (the minimum was 26 frequencies and 6,760 seats).

These figures appear in the evaluation report of the offer received within the tender procedure for the new air route between La Rioja and the Canaries, which was published today, the 26th, on the La Rioja Government’s Procurement Portal.

Boosting Tourism and Connectivity

The Riojan government has promoted this tender with the goal of improving connectivity for its residents to one of Spain’s premier sun and beach destinations. It also aims to allow international tourists and Canary Islanders to travel to the region, benefiting the local tourism, hospitality, and commercial sectors.

The tender documents state that the contract with the winning bidder will last for two years, extendable by a further two years, up to a maximum of four. The economic offer from the bidder amounts to €538,450. The aircraft have a minimum capacity of 132 seats per journey, two more than required.

Promoting La Rioja in the Canaries

The contract includes carrying out sponsorship activities to increase the positioning, notoriety, and recognition of the La Rioja tourism brand in the Canary Islands market. This will be achieved through advertising supports and promotional actions linked to the air travel environment, leveraging the dissemination capacity, impact, and segmentation offered by the winning airline’s activity.

Gran Canaria Airport Wins Prestigious Award

In related news, Gran Canaria Airport was recognised last February by Airports Council International (ACI) as the ‘Best European Airport’ in the category for airports handling between 15 and 25 million passengers. The award was given for its commitment to improving the passenger experience within its facilities.

This award is particularly significant as it is determined by passengers themselves through their ratings in the ASQ (Airport Service Quality) surveys, which are conducted in person at airports worldwide.
