Cloud takes centre stage across the Canary Islands this Wednesday, with Saharan dust still drifting through the skies and temperatures holding close to 30C in sheltered southern spots. The Atlantic stays rough along north-facing coasts, and La Palma could catch a few drops late in the day.

General conditions

Low cloud greets the islands early on, giving way to local afternoon cloud building over the southern interior. Bands of high cloud will drift across through the day, softening the blue sky, while some desert dust remains in suspension.

Temperatures see little change, again approaching 30C in specific southern areas. Winds stay mostly light, with sea breezes dominating the coasts — a westerly component in the western province and a northerly one in the east. The odd stronger gust is possible on the north of La Palma and Tenerife.

At sea, expect rough conditions along north-facing coasts with waves under 1.5 metres, and slightly choppy to rough water in the south.

Thursday looks set to bring a turn in the weather.

Tenerife

Local cloud builds from midday onwards, with the chance of an isolated stronger gust in the north. High cloud will also drift overhead, and temperatures hold steady.

Gran Canaria

Low cloud clings to the north-east, while bands of high cloud cross from west to east. In the capital, thermometers move between 23C and 27C.

Lanzarote

Arrecife sees temperatures between 22C and 29C. Skies stay largely clear of cloud, both low and high, with a light ocean breeze keeping the coast a touch cooler.

Fuerteventura

Low cloud in the morning gives way to streaks of high cloud passing through, with some calima in the mix. Puerto del Rosario ranges from 22C to 29C.

La Palma

Cloud builds through the afternoon, and a few drops cannot be ruled out in the north and east late in the day. The capital sits between 22C and 26C.

La Gomera

Bands of high cloud linger for much of the day, with local cloud developing over the south after midday. Temperatures range from 23C to 29C.

El Hierro

Low and high cloud mix throughout the day, sea breezes dominate the coast, and Valverde sees temperatures between 20C and 25C.

La Graciosa

Low cloud first thing, then high cloud passing overhead for the rest of the day. No wind to speak of, and temperatures hold steady.
