A hot and hazy Friday across the archipelago
Friday brings another day of intense heat and increasing calima to the Canary Islands. Temperatures will climb again, with the hottest spots expected in the south and west of the larger islands. It will be a dry and mostly clear day, though a moderate trade wind will keep coastal areas slightly cooler.
General conditions
Expect scattered clouds in the north of the mountainous islands during the early and late hours. Elsewhere, skies will be mostly clear. Calima will thicken, especially in the midlands and at higher elevations.
Temperatures will rise slightly. Highs will hit 30–32ºC in the midlands and southern peaks of the mountainous islands, as well as inland areas of Lanzarote. The mercury could exceed 37ºC in the southern midlands of Gran Canaria. The wind will be a moderate trade wind, with stronger gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes of the mountainous islands. The ocean will see waves of around 1.5 metres on northern coasts, with calmer conditions in the south.
