Friday brings a familiar summer mix across the Canary Islands: low clouds clinging to northern coasts, pleasant warmth elsewhere, and a moderate northeast wind. The Atlantic stays relatively calm, though the breeze picks up between the larger islands.
General conditions
Low cloud will sit below 600–800 metres on northern and eastern slopes, most noticeable in the morning and again after mid-afternoon. Southern and western sides of the bigger islands stay sunny, with the mercury reaching around 36°C in parts of Gran Canaria and up to 34°C in the western islands.
Winds blow moderate from the northeast, with locally strong gusts on southeast and northwest-facing slopes. At sea, the trade winds reach force 5, occasionally force 6 between the more mountainous islands. Waves around 1.5 metres are expected along most coasts.
Tenerife
Cloudy skies in the north below about 800 metres, with temperatures in line with summer norms. Elsewhere, expect sunshine and warmth throughout the day.
Gran Canaria
The classic “panza de burro” – a thick band of cloud – sits over the north, keeping temperatures mild there. Inland southern slopes heat up considerably. Strong to very strong gusts are possible in the northwest, on the summits, and in the southeast.
Lanzarote
Cloud cover in the north and west, thickest in the morning and late afternoon. Moderate northeast wind with locally strong gusts.
Fuerteventura
Sunny with summer-like temperatures. Low clouds drift along the west coast during the morning and again after mid-afternoon.
La Palma
Hot and sunny in the western part of the island, while the east sees variable low cloud. Moderate northeast wind overall.
La Gomera
Cloudy in the north. Gusts could reach or exceed 70 km/h overnight and in the early hours – though Agulo and Hermigua should stay sheltered.
El Hierro
Low clouds in the north, persistent in the far northeast. Maximum temperature around 34°C.
La Graciosa
Sunshine with variable cloud cover. Temperatures reach around 28°C at midday.
