A calm start to the weekend
While the rest of the country faces a spike in temperatures, the Canary Islands are sitting this heatwave out. A mass of warm air is sending thermometers soaring on the mainland, but it’s not expected to reach the archipelago. Friday offers a pleasant mix of clouds and sun, with a light to moderate breeze from the north keeping things comfortable.
Mild temperatures and a calm Atlantic
Low clouds will be more persistent in the north during the morning, gradually giving way to clearer skies. High clouds will drift across the islands from west to east, but they won’t bring any rain. Winds will be light to moderate from the north, and the ocean will be slightly choppy in sheltered southern coves, with rougher conditions on the northern coasts where waves could reach around one metre. Daytime highs will hover around 28°C in the southern parts of the more mountainous islands.
Tenerife
Low clouds will dominate the north early and late in the day, but will tend to pull back by midday. A band of high clouds will also pass through. Temperatures will remain much the same as the previous day.
Gran Canaria
Low cloud cover will dissipate by midday, making way for some passing high clouds. In the capital, Las Palmas, temperatures will range between 21°C and 24°C. The wind will be moderate.
Lanzarote
In Arrecife, temperatures will sit between 19°C and 26°C. Low clouds will be more frequent in the north and west during the morning, while the rest of the island enjoys sunshine and a few high clouds.
Fuerteventura
A mostly clearer day, with clouds mainly confined to the western slopes and no real impact. Puerto del Rosario will see temperatures between 20°C and 26°C.
La Palma
A cloudy day, with low cloud in the north and on the eastern slopes, and mostly high cloud in the west. Less wind than elsewhere, and temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C.
La Gomera
Low cloud will be limited to the north and scattered in the interior, with high clouds passing at times. The wind will drop during the day, and temperatures will barely change.
El Hierro
Expect low clouds at dawn and the odd high cloud drifting through, but nothing more. In Valverde, temperatures will range from a cool 14°C to a pleasant 19°C.
La Graciosa
Grey skies to start, brightening up through the afternoon. Trails of high cloud might appear but they’re nothing to worry about. Temperatures will be stable, and the wind will be light.
