Tragedy Strikes During Morning Swim
A quiet holiday morning in Tenerife ended in tragedy for a British family. Rose Buck, a 56-year-old woman, has died days after suffering a serious accident while swimming near the coast in Costa Adeje, in the south of the island, as reported by The Sun. The tourist was enjoying a few days of rest with her family when she decided to go for a morning swim.
Experienced Swimmer Caught by Sudden Wave
According to her daughter, Rose was an experienced swimmer who would always take the opportunity to enter the water during her travels. That morning, however, something unexpected changed the course of what seemed a tranquil moment. The family’s account states that Rose was swimming in an area known for its usually calm waters when a sudden wave struck her with force and threw her against nearby rocks. The impact left her unconscious in the water.
Emergency Response and Hospital Battle
Witnesses in the area noticed the situation and quickly alerted lifeguards. When she was pulled from the sea, the woman had been underwater for several minutes. Several people attempted to resuscitate her on the beach while emergency services arrived. She was subsequently transferred to a hospital on the island, where doctors began an intense fight to save her life.
In the days following the accident, doctors worked to stabilise her condition. The woman had suffered serious injuries from the impact with the rocks and had aspirated a large amount of water. Healthcare professionals worked to control various complications, including hypothermia and respiratory issues caused by the time she spent submerged. Despite the efforts of the medical team, the neurological damage proved too severe. Finally, after several days of treatment, doctors confirmed that recovery was not possible. Rose Buck died in hospital days after the accident.
A Life Remembered: Tributes Pour In
Beyond the tragedy, the family has wanted to remember who Rose was. Her daughter, Chantelle Buck-Forrest, has shared the profound grief they are enduring, but also the enormous affection they have received since the accident occurred. She explains that her mother was a well-known and well-liked person by those around her. For years she worked as a postwoman, a job that brought her into contact with many people in her community.
Following her death, messages of support began arriving from various places. Friends, neighbours, and even people who barely knew her have wanted to express their affection for the family. For Chantelle, that support has been one of the few things that has helped them bear the pain of their loss.
