Saturday: cloud banks and a moderate trade wind

It’s a mostly dry and pleasant Saturday across the Canary Islands, but don’t expect wall-to-wall sunshine everywhere. The northern coasts of the mountainous islands will start the day under cloud cover, while the trade wind blows moderately and temperatures edge up slightly.

General conditions

Skies will be cloudy in the north of the mountainous islands, easing to variable cloud cover by midday. A stray drop of rain cannot be ruled out in the midlands of La Palma’s northeast. Elsewhere, expect mostly clear skies.

Maximum temperatures will rise slightly, with the most noticeable increase in the midlands and peaks of the mountainous islands. The moderate trade wind will be stronger on the southeast and northwest coasts, particularly on Gran Canaria, where gusts could be locally very strong in the afternoon. A light ocean breeze will dominate the southwest coasts.

The Atlantic will be active on the north-facing coasts and the western shores of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with waves potentially reaching or exceeding two metres. Elsewhere, particularly off the southwest coasts of the mountainous islands and the southeast of the eastern islands, the ocean will be calmer with waves of 0.5 to 1 metre.
