Tuesday: Summer heat and stable weather on the Islands

Sunny and stable: high pressure holds until Thursday

The Canary Islands are enjoying a spell of classic summer weather, with conditions set to remain unchanged until midweek. Tuesday brings a mix of sunshine and variable cloud, moderate trade winds, and warm temperatures, although inland areas could see a noticeable jump in the mercury later in the week.

General conditions

Expect a typical summer day on Tuesday. Variable amounts of low cloud will affect the north of the larger islands, along with the east of La Palma and parts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Maximum temperatures will range from 30 to 32ºC, with the possibility of a degree or two more in the south of Gran Canaria. Winds will be moderate from the northeast. The calmest ocean conditions, with waves below one metre, are expected on beaches in the southwest of the islands with more rugged terrain.

Tenerife

Low clouds will drift over the north and possibly the western municipalities. A moderate trade wind will blow, tending to a light westerly breeze around Mount Teide.

Gran Canaria

The famous “panza de burro” cloud bank will form over the north during the morning, sitting at around 1,100 metres, before lowering to about 900 metres in the afternoon. Elsewhere, expect sunny skies and the warmest temperatures of the day, with highs of 32 to 34ºC.

Lanzarote

Clouds will build over the north and west of the island, becoming more abundant during the morning and again late in the day. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, with locally strong gusts at times.

Fuerteventura

A sunny day is expected overall, with some low clouds lingering on the north coast and the western shoreline. These will be more numerous in the morning and after mid-afternoon.

La Palma

The western side of the island will see sunny and warm conditions. The east will experience variable amounts of low cloud, ranging from scattered to more persistent.

La Gomera

Plenty of sunshine is on the cards, with over 12 hours of sun expected for the south of the island. Cloud cover will appear elsewhere, but temperatures will remain summery.

El Hierro

Low clouds will affect the north and east, but the south and southwest will enjoy sunny spells. Temperatures will be warm, with a moderate northeast wind across the island.

La Graciosa

Some clouds will drift across the island, but sunshine will dominate. Maximum temperatures will reach around 28ºC, accompanied by a refreshing trade wind.

Looking ahead

No major changes are expected until Thursday, when temperatures are set to rise noticeably, particularly in inland areas and mid-altitude zones (medianías).
