The heat continues across the Canary Islands this Sunday. Mostly clear skies will dominate, although calima will be present in the mid-levels and peaks, and the trade wind will pick up noticeably on some coasts.
General conditions
Temperatures are rising again, especially in lower areas. Thermometers are likely to exceed 35ºC inland, particularly in the southern and western halves of the mountainous islands, where localised readings of over 37ºC are possible. In the highlands and southern mid-level areas of Gran Canaria, the mercury could even surpass 40ºC.
The trade wind will be moderate, with stronger intervals in the southeast and northwest of the mountainous islands, as well as inland in the south of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where occasional very strong gusts are possible during the afternoon and evening.
With regard to the Atlantic, the largest waves will be on northern shores open to the swell, reaching around one metre in height. More sheltered southern coasts will see light ripples on the water.
