Wednesday: calima clears, temperatures drop

Goodbye calima, hello blue skies

Wednesday marks a clear shift in the weather across the Canary Islands. The high cloud cover that made Tuesday feel more grey than blue is retreating, and so is the Saharan dust. A light calima will linger through the morning over some eastern islands, but it should dissipate by midday. What remains are low clouds hovering around 600 metres — mainly on the northern slopes of the mountainous islands and the western sides of the eastern ones.

Temperatures are dropping moderately in several areas, but it’s still a warm day overall. Winds are blowing from the north along the coast, with occasional gusts picking up around the exposed tips of the larger islands and across central-south Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. The Atlantic is rough on northern coasts, with waves staying just under two metres, while southern shores are calmer with swells around one metre.

Island-by-island forecast

Tenerife

Some spots could still nudge 30°C, but temperatures are dropping moderately — especially towards the Anaga mountains. Clouds will be scarce, with a band of low cloud at around 600 metres on the northern side.

Gran Canaria

Expect occasional strong gusts around La Aldea and on the opposite side near Agüimes. Scattered clouds in the north. Temperatures ranging from 21°C to 23°C.

Lanzarote

A touch of calima that will fade away during the day. Scattered clouds on the western side with some wind. In Arrecife, temperatures between 18°C and 27°C.

Fuerteventura

The thermometer is dropping noticeably. In Puerto del Rosario, expect 18°C to 28°C. Clouds will settle on the western side of the island. A bit of calima may remain.

La Palma

Cloud cover is losing its grip. Some low cloud intervals on the northern side and splashes across the east — otherwise, it’s a sunny day. Temperatures from 17°C to 24°C.

La Gomera

Blue skies with suspended dust that will gradually clear on the horizon. Wind will pick up at the island’s extremes. Temperatures are dropping.

El Hierro

Mostly clear skies with a light calima in the morning that will fade. Light ocean breezes along the coast. Cooler temperatures overall.

La Graciosa

Few clouds overall — at most a few scattered ones, mainly in the morning. Light coastal breezes. A faint calima high up that will weaken as the day goes on. Temperatures are lower.
