Storm Therese’s final act
Storm Therese will finally leave the Canary Islands tonight, but not before delivering a last round of heavy, localised showers today. The most mountainous islands face the highest risk. A return to more stable weather is forecast for Thursday.
General outlook for Wednesday
Showers could be intense in places, most likely across Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro overnight. Lighter rain is possible in southern Gran Canaria. Winds will be light from the northeast in the west and from the north in the east. Temperatures remain steady, typical for the season.
The Atlantic will be rough on northern coasts with waves around 1.5 metres. Southern coasts will see a slightly choppy ocean with some rough patches.
Island-by-island forecast
Tenerife
Unsettled conditions will gradually ease. Some showers are still expected, with local afternoon clouds possibly bringing rain to municipalities in the southwest later in the day.
Gran Canaria
Expect a mix of clear spells and large, well-developed clouds. These could produce the odd isolated shower, particularly in the western half of the island. The instability will clear overnight.
Lanzarote
Cloudy for much of the day, especially in the north and west, with a chance of a light morning drizzle. Skies should clear after midday.
Fuerteventura
Calmer weather is expected. An isolated shower is possible first thing, then skies will tend to clear. Light winds.
La Palma
Complicated hours are forecast from this afternoon into the night. Showers are expected which could be locally heavy and even accompanied by strong wind gusts. These will ease off tomorrow.
La Gomera
Isolated showers are expected in the island’s interior. Clouds will persist all day with a noticeable northeast wind. Temperatures unchanged.
El Hierro
Abundant cloud cover will remain, with a few scattered showers still possible, though less likely than yesterday. A moderate northeast wind. Temperatures steady.
La Graciosa
A much calmer day with passing clouds and the chance of an inconsequential light drizzle. Temperatures similar, with little to no wind.
