Playa del Reducto is the main and most attractive beach in Lanzarote’s capital, Arrecife. Set in the heart of the city, on the shores of a calm turquoise lagoon, it’s an oasis of relaxation for residents and visitors alike. White sand, a gentle slope into the water and an elegant promenade make Reducto unmatched among the urban beaches of the Canary Islands.
A Lagoon of White Sand
Reducto is a lagoon beach — a natural reef and breakwater shield the bay from the open ocean, creating a pool of exceptionally calm, warm water. The depth stays shallow over a large stretch, making it an ideal spot for bathing with children. The sand is pale, fine-grained and regularly replenished — the beach has undergone a thorough renovation in recent years, gaining a new promenade boulevard, pedestrian paths and modern facilities.
The water in the lagoon is usually warmer than at the island’s open beaches, and swimming conditions are good virtually year-round. It’s one of the few beaches on Lanzarote where wind is not a problem — the lagoon is effectively sheltered from it.

The Promenade and Surroundings
An elegant promenade lined with palm trees, benches and food outlets runs the length of the beach. On the landward side, the skyline is dominated by the five-star Gran Hotel — the tallest building on the island and one of the few high-rises on Lanzarote, designed with the approval of César Manrique. Along the promenade you’ll find cafes, ice cream parlours and restaurants with ocean views.
For years Arrecife had a reputation as a city tourists skipped — most headed straight from the airport to the southern resorts. The renovated Playa del Reducto is changing that. The city is growing in appeal, and the beach is its flagship. It’s worth combining a visit to Reducto with a waterfront walk to Castillo de San Gabriel — a 17th-century fortress on a small island connected to the mainland by a bridge.
