Father settles €200 guachinche bill after son’s dine and dash
Some parents are truly saints, as the saying goes. A clear example is a man from Tenerife who had to go to a local guachinche – a traditional Canarian eatery – to settle his son’s bill, after the young man did a runner following a meal out with friends. The establishment, El Fogón, shared the story on its social media.
An embarrassed and honourable response
“Remember the dine and dash of almost €200 from yesterday? Well, today the father of one of the lads came in, visibly embarrassed, to pay the bill,” the restaurant posted. What else could the man do, especially as he is a regular customer at the restaurant? It appears the business had shared an image of the car used by the group when they left without paying. Upon recognising the vehicle, the father decided to go and pay the tab himself.
Restaurant praises regular customer’s integrity
“It turns out he is actually a regular customer of ours. He saw the images and didn’t hesitate to come in person to take responsibility for his son and his friends’ bill,” explained the guachinche, which used the opportunity to thank the client for his gesture. “From here, we can only thank him for his action and the honesty he has shown. We hope the sons learn something about integrity and values from their father, because gestures like this say a lot about a person,” the post added.
Social media reaction to the act of responsibility
The restaurant’s social media post was quickly filled with messages of support for the father. “My hat goes off to this gentleman! We need more people like this…”, “I’m very glad. That says a lot about the man”, “An excellent father, I hope his son reflects and follows in his father’s footsteps” and “Parents always stepping up for their children” were some of the comments left by users, though some also pointed out that he should have brought his son along with him.
